PostSubject: Gasp!! Having to consider another resort...   Mon Nov 08, 2010 2:43 pm

After getting back from our first Disney trip this past August and staying at the most wonderful resort-CSR, my DH came home yesterday and announced that we HAVE to go back to Disney! Yay for us, I was so excited...Here's the bad part-I checked out prices and in order to get the free dining dates for August and to still stay within our son's school schedule (daughter will probably want to be home schooled again), CSR is a bit too pricey for us this time. The only other alternative would be to stay at one of the Port Orleans resorts, which would save us around $400-might not sound like a ton to some, but to us, that's a lot of savings. I could cry because we loved CSR so much, but has anyone here had any experiences at one of the PO resorts and what are your thoughts on them?? I keep telling myself, hey it's still Disney!! Thanks again..

It _is_ still Disney.

We have stayed at POR in the Bayou section. It was nice, just not CSR. There are some advantages - the boat to DTD, for example, or the piano man at the bar.

Hey, book it now while DH is into it, and watch for an oppurtunity to upgrade! Wink

Ok, sorry to sound so uninformed here...What did you mean by opportunity to upgrade?? How would that work? Those queen beds and that awesome Dig Site are calling out to me....LOL

We just meant watch for any promotions that might make CSR affordable; like maybe a gift card, or a change in the free dining promotion, or maybe a pin code.

Even if nothing happens, you're still going to Disney!

Agreed, you never know what can happen in a year. Make your reservation and you might be able to change. We made our reservation at CSR this December knowing it was a little pricey. Hoping that some kind of promo would come through. And it did...so we saved money. You call them at any time and ask to take advantage of the offer. That being said the prices were the same at PO and CB so it was between CSR and a Value Resort.

I stayed at PO Riverside years ago. The rooms are similar in size and I think have the same sq. footage as CSR. THey do not have the queen beds and but I am sure they had the fridges. The grounds are beautiful, just different. Gas lanterns and lots of flowers. They did carriage rides for a cost. They have boat rentals and bike rentals as well. The grounds have rivers that run through it and there is a fishing area too. Their QS dining was fanastic...not along the lines of PMarket but still great.

Good Luck in your choice and remember you can always make a change!

Laurel -
make the reservations! I survived Wilderness Lodge (oh, the horror affraid )

Then if I were you - I'd pick a nite and make a dinner reservation at the Maya Grill and plan on spending some time walking around the resort after dinner. Perfect relaxing night!!

Sometimes it just works out that way. I'll be staying at POR in November 2011 even though I don't want to. At least the rooms will be renovated. I guess it's always good to try new places but my heart will be at CSR!!

Buzz I didn't realize that POR would have renovated rooms, that is definitely a plus if it's done before next August..I think I'll be with you, I will be longing for CSR..

Under the links on the CSR site is the POR Tribute page. He has some info regarding the rehab there.

Another Good Resort Site

Hmm sounds like Riverside is going last-I wonder if we should request French Quarter instead-oh my gosh queen beds!! This is a really good site Buzz, I actually think the place looks really cozy and quaint, really pretty! Buzz if you could choose a second favorite resort, which would it be?? Have you ever stayed at a deluxe? Beach/Yacht Club looks really nice...

I've stayed at the Cont, FW and CSR. I visited them all but I'd pick the Beach Club. I want to stay there but DW doesn't think its worth the extra money and both DW and DD love CSR so its always been a no brainer for us where to stay. But after I pay all the college bills over the next few years, then I want to try the Beach Club just once. but transportation is still the best at CSR. All the others share. That's what I hated about the Cont.

I also would like to try POFQ.

Ok, you didn't ask me, but if I were going to cheat on CSR, it would be Beach Club or Contemporary. BC for the pool/slide, and Contemporary for the whole "You can WALK to the Magic Kingdom!!" thing.

Kathie, your opinions are always much appreciated!! I am with you both-Yacht/Beach Club always draws me in when I see it online..We did get to see the outside of it I think only one time when we were there. We were on a boat headed somewhere, don't remember-I think we had just left Epcot and it was raining. We dropped some people off at Beach Club and it looked so pretty-I would love to stay there one day. My poor DH is having awful back problems right now and he just doesn't think he could do another 12 hr drive so that's why we are having to say no to CSR this year to save the extra cash to fly this time. College Buzz?? I can't even go there in my mind...Yikes. :(

Like others have said, you'll still be at Disney.

That being said, POR-Riverside is the only other moderate we would consider if the CSR were not available. I'm not crazy about all the "masks" at the POFQ and their hot tub is very small and they have no quiet pools; the CBR theme just doesn't appeal to us...probably because we go to the beach every trip after Disney and I think their food court is awful.

I've not read anything yet, but I wonder if the POR and POFQ rates will go up once all of the rehab is done (the CSR went up when they had their rehab and added the queen beds)????

Ok-here's the update....When checking into CSR 3 weeks ago, they had no standard rooms available which of course made the price go up, that's why we were checking into PO resort....Just checked 2 days ago, and all of a sudden they had standard rooms available and now price is back down to what I would want..Problem is, DH is now siked on staying at another just to try but I want to go back to CSR...We haven't booked yet, I need to get on that but now being just a few weeks away from Christmas I don't want to part with even $200!!! I'll keep you posted..Funny thing is, I have never considered CBR-I have no desire to stay there, it would definitely be CSR or PO-but I"ll have to keep checking on the prices going up for PO now with their rehab, thanks for that advice!!
