PostSubject: Anyone ever flown Allegiant Air?   Tue Nov 16, 2010 1:04 pm

We are getting ready to book our August 2011 Disney vacation (yay!) and are determined that we are going to try and fly this time-DH has terrible back problems and has a really hard time sitting for long periods of time, the 12 hr drive would not do well for him again I'm afraid. I was talking to a travel agent the other day (even though I'll probably book it myself) and she was totally steering me away from flying Allegiant Air. We have looked and most of their flights are around $50 per person, one way which if that's the case, would cost us approximately $400 for the 4 of us round trip flying out of Wilmington NC (2 hr drive for us). She kept saying oh no we'll probably hook you up with Southwest, etc, we don't deal with Allegiant. Unfortunately I cannot get any concrete prices for August until around April or May-has anyone ever flown on Allegiant and what are your thoughts?? She also said that we wouldn't want to fly them because they don't go into MCO and Magical Express only does MCO, which would mean a cab ride for us...Any thoughts??

Another thing, she said Southwest or any of the other major airlines would probably cost us around $1000 for 4 of us..

We've never flown Allegiant, but we have flown into Sanford instead of MCO a couple of times. Sanford is a much smaller airport, and we thought it was easier to get in & out of.
While ME does not go to Sanford, you can get shuttle service from Mears & others.

I flew Allegiant in October 2010 from Greenville/Spartanburg SC to MCO and then back to GSP. Both flights were perfect and they both arrived early. The planes were full so alot of folks were taking advantage of the great fares. Each of the staff, from the counter check in to the flight attendants, were very friendly and courteous. However, I did not stay at Disney so I have no experience with ME. I am flying Allegiant again over Thanksgiving.

In February, Allegiant will stop flying into MCO and will instead fly into Sanford.

Since you have flown and are getting ready to fly Allegiant then maybe you can tell me this..she also told me that by the time you actually buy your tickets, the price has jumped enormously from what they advertised, is this true?? She really tried hard to steer me away from this airlines and towards Southwest and I have to keep wondering if it's because she doesn't get any kickbacks from Allegiant??? Thanks for your thoughts and hope you have a great flight!

You can check the prices yourself at Allegiant.com without actually purchasing tickets. The closer you get to your departure date, the prices will increase. So you are better off to buy in advance. I think I purchased tickets for my first trip about 3 1/2 weeks out. I checked the prices daily up until then. My flight on thanksgiving day is only $21.99 and I purchased it 2 weeks out. There are various charges for checked bags and fees for seat choice so you have to read the small print carefully but overall I think Allegiant is a great bargain.

She probably has a deal with SouthWest. We have never flown Allegiant, I don't think they fly out of Philly. When you are factoring price, do make sure to add the cost of the shuttle to the airfare, since ME is free out of MCO...and once you have used ME, you won't ever want to do without it!

AJ's, I was wondering how much a cab would be from there to Disney....Unfortunately I can't get any airfare prices until April, so I guess we'll have to hold out til then! Wish Airtran flew to Orlando, we get really good deals flying our daughter to Atlanta with them....
