PostSubject: What would you do?   Sun Apr 17, 2011 8:58 pm

Our trip is quickly approaching - only 124 more days to go

But here's what might quickly become my dilemma.

Very close friends of ours had to cancel their planned Nickelodeon cruise for this summer and now are left without a vacation scheduled. My GF is a teacher so summer vacations really work best for them.

They are trying to come up with the money to book a trip to Disney that coincides with ours - they just need to be sure they can come up with the money. I'd say that right about now - it's probably 50-50 that they'll end up going. They have never stayed on site before because they have a time share in the area.

My concern is that we've been planning for quite some time and have all our dining reservations set. Since they've never stayed on site before - they aren't too familira with the dining reservation process - they usually eat in the time share.

We would LOVE, love, love to have them visiting at the same time as us however - but at the same time I would feel immensly torn if this did end up happening. I know I would want to: A. either attempt to increase the party size of at least some of our reservations or B. cancel some of them to arrange reservations for whatever might be open to eat with them - although I know I really wouldn't want to cancel any of the reservations we agonized over.

If this were you....what would you do??

Hmm....I would talk this over with the hubby, if I were you, and then pick maybe 2 or 3 ADRS that you would be willing to "share" and see if you are even able to increase the party size. I really don't think it is at all selfish to keep a few of the ADRS to yourself. I am sure there will be TONS of opportunities for you guys to spend time together, but you will want time apart, as well. I think it is generous as the day is long that you are even THINKING about canceling/switching some of your ADRS at this late date.

Thanks AJ'smommy. (DH likes to refer to me as a doormat because I always seem to put everyone else's happiness in front of my own!) Increasing the pary size would be the best option - I've just never done that before and am not sure how easy that is to accomplish.

LOL Kathie...seems you are very much like Mrs Midnite. As much as I love some of my friends and family, I rarely go on vacation with anyone. Call me selfish but I go on vacation to be with MY family.

Don't know the size of their party or the $$ they have to play but the All Stars are affordable...and if they can get some percentage off or free meals that can defnitely bring the cost down,

Most definitely take AJ'sMoms advise and assure you have some time and meals for JUST your family.

Kathie, if possible, and if the other family wants to, I would try to book new reservations to include the other family. not all the meals but a few of them.

I'm with you Doc. Sometimes its just to difficult to vacation the way I want to when others want to do it the way they want to. I've been to WDW with my BIL & family, SIL & family, co-workers & family, friends & families and once with a friend of my DD. The biggest group we had about 30 of us. The only meal we did together was Hoop Dee Doo review. It definitely can be fun but I much prefer just my family.

You are so sweet and considerate to consider changing your plans. I have found that when we vacation with others, that we need to squeeze in some down time from each other. Will they be staying at CSR too? I agree with aj'smom about talking it over with your husband and see what he thinks. Decide which plans are etched in stone, then discuss it with your friends to see what they would like to do or not do as a group.

Thanks everyone! Some really good ideas here - so glad I asked. I think I will just be up front about it and bring it up - the sooner the better. Just let them know that if there is even a slight chance they are going to go through with booking - we should discuss dining plans now. And while we certainly don't need to have every meal together - we could certainly do many lunches together because we usually just do CS for lunch and maybe we can make some minor adjustments to our TS ressie's. I have a feeling that something like Biergarten, for instance, should easily be able to change us from table for 4 to table for 7. So I'm sure it won't be nearly as bad as I've made it out in my mind!!

Laurel -
I spend so much time worrying about so many things that never happen!

They were not able to come up with the money for this year. So we are going without them and our plans have remained the same. (although hubby did let me add one more night onto our reservations! )

We are looking at some sort of 3 day weekend trip in our area...possibly camping up near the Delaware Water gap.

The current plan is to try to work something out at Disney as a group for next summer or Christmas time. (dare I even hope CSR?)

What are your dates in Aug? Same time as last year? I'm getting ready to book for Aug 2012 since they have opened it up so early. Also nice that we'll have a year to pay! Would really love to get free dining offered-going to Disney is getting pricier and pricier...! Hope you will post some pics this year!!
