PostSubject: Our meal at the Maya Grill   Sun Sep 13, 2009 10:00 am

On 8/23, we finally got to try the Maya Grill. We have a funny history with this restaurant. We tried to eat here 3 years ago on a trip when we wanted to try CSR for the first time but couldn't get a room. When we arrived, our dtr was 18 months and had a major, head banging melt down in the parking lot and we never got in. Something has gotten in the way of our eating here every year since. Maybe it's just not meant to be.

So we finally got to try it on our first night at CSR. We were excited to be having a TS at our resort because we thought it would start off a nice, leisurely first night at our resort. We arrived promptly at 6pm and were immediately seated. And that's when things went downhill. It took 20 minutes before we saw anyone. We placed our drink orders and appetizers. The appetizer came well before the drinks. Then it was a full 45 minutes from the time that the appetizers were cleared until our meals arrived. No one came by in the interim, no checking on our drink status, no update on the status of our meals. This continued through our whole meal. We waited too long to have dinner plates cleared and when we had our dessert plates cleared and were waiting for the check, I gave up and left with our 2 kids. We were in there for almost 3 hours - with 2 kids to keep quiet and happy. Surrounding tables came and went. People arriving after us left before we did. Finally my husband was able to leave too and we just decided that we had nothing else planned that night anyway so we would just move on.

A few days later, I looked at the number of TS meals left and realized we had one more than we should have. I immediately went to the concierge desk to find out what happened. After looking at where we had eaten as well as our room charges, the CM was able to determine that for some reason, the Maya Grill meal had been counted against our dining plan and then reversed later and charged to our room but no one knew why. This came out to be $145. Aside from our serving issues, we really liked the food. My husband had a seafood skillet for an appetizer which he loved. The kids had beef tips which is a great choice for the kids dining plan. I had a steak for an entree which was really good. The desserts were out of this world. But in no way was it $145 meal.

Luckily, someone a the desk was able to immediately correct the charge. They were extremely kind and helpful.

So it seems as if our family's just not destined to have a good experience with the Maya Grill no matter what we do  That being said, none of this would keep us from trying to dine here again.

I'm sorry about your experience Kathie. You should write a note to guest services to tell them about it. If they are not made aware, it's difficult for them to talk with Spring Foods to have the issue corrected.

Keep your receipts.....very important.....we are always willing to adjust any errors in the dining plans; but we will need the receipts to justify it!!!! That includes any meals you might eat away from CSR and dinner shows.

Thanks, John. My DH always keeps every receipt - it tends to drive me nuts. And wouldn't you know it, we couldn't find this one. But an absolutely amazing CM still made the correction for us!

We had breakast at Maya Grill, and while the service was quite good, the food was not. The fruit was not fresh, and most of the food appeared to have been sitting out for a while, even though we had the 1st seating of the day. We ended up eating rasin bran for breakfast here, and that was some mighty pricey cereal, IMHO. This buffet was not even close to the one at Crystal Palace. Is there any chance that Disney will ever "take over" the dining establishments at CSR? We did notice that the places that are NOT owned by Disney sort of "cheap out" in a lot of ways. Any chance?

During my last stay in May 09 we ate dinner and breakfast here. I had mixed feelings, dinner was ok thought it could have been a little better. The breakfast buffet was sufficient and definitely what we expected. I would definitely give it another go.

I know this thread has been dead for a while, but I just wanted to chime in. We ate at Maya Grill for our first night's dinner and it was amazing, however on our last day we had the breakfast buffet and it was the complete opposite. The service lacked and all the buffet items were cold and stale tasting. Since it was our last day at the resort and we were rushing to catch our plane, I didn't have the time or energy to say anything. I don't know if it was just a bad morning, but I think that when we go again in September we'll stick to the dinner there.
