I'd like to try some of the budget dining spots like Earl of Sandwich, Sweet Tomatoes, and Steak and Shake that I read about on Mousesavers.

How much of a hassle is it going to be and how long is it going to take to get to Downtown Disney from CSR using Disney transportation. We'll walk from there to Crossroads.

Would it be better to stay at Port Orleans if I want to dine in this area. Is the bus ride from CSR much slower than the boat ride from POR?

I've stayed at both and the bus ride to DtD from CSR is about 25 mins but the ride back is quicker and more direct. It also depends on when you get to the bus stop. If you just missed the bus or if you walk up as the bus is arriving.

It also depends on the time of day and if the bus is stopping at Typhoon Lagoon.

But the boat from POR is slower and makes a stop at POFQ too.
