PostSubject: Ain't no better time than now, for Mexico!!!   Fri Oct 19, 2012 8:40 pm

Ok, kids....hubby and I were talking today, and he told me, point blank, that we are going BACK to WDW, and CSR, next September! We decided to try something different this year, and we are headed to sunny Mexico on a Disney Cruise in just thirty-six days. Apparently DH actually misses WDW. It is hard for me to reconcile this with the man who fought me tooth and nail on our first trip, just over 8 years ago! Anywho....this is going to be a combined cruise report and pre-trip planning report for our 2013 trip back to WDW.

Our Cruise

We are on Disney's newest ship, The Fantasy, 11/24 thru 12/01. This is our first cruise, EVER, so of course, being Disney nuts, we chose DCL. We are on a Western Caribbean itinerary, and we will be visiting Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Costa Maya, and Disney's private island Castaway Cay. We are visiting a turtle farm in Grand Cayman, doing a tour of some ruins and a tequila distillery in Cozumel, and are chilling at the beach in Costa Maya. Hubster and I have a brunch booked at Palo's, the adult only venue, on our first sea day, and we have ordered an EXTREMELY expensive cake for the child's birthday on 11/29.

Our WDW Trip

Per the hubster, I am to pay the upcharge for 9B, if the rooms are available, and we are looking to book from the Thursday before Labor Day until the next Sunday. I have been given the go-ahead to book as soon as we get back from our cruise! I am also thinking about doing a vow renewal while we are there. Our wedding anniversary is in June, but there is no way I am going to Florida in June, and wearing a formal gown at that.

Our Family

For those of you who DON'T know us...

Me: Momma...addicted to Disney World, Kenny Chesney and the greatest hockey team to ever grace the ice, the Philadelphia Flyers. I have a boring real job, have a part time party cake home based business, do music reviews for an on-line country music magazine and write a blog on a Flyers website. Thrill ride junkie who Tower of Terror.

Hubster: Daddy....has a better paying boring job, is a thrill ride junkie who hates Tower of Terror, is a speed demon and a retired professional cyclist (think Tour de France, not Harley), and finally admitted that Kenny Chesney is a pretty good performer after this year's concert, so he is obviously a very intelligent guy.

The Child: Ten going on twenty-five. Addicted to Skylanders, Epic Mickey and Kingdom Hearts. Also a thrill ride junkie who hates TOT, and a budding speed demon.

Well, those are the facts so far...I must return to packing for the cruise...more info as soon as it is available!

Sigh....it is looking more and more like we are NOT going to have any hockey to watch this season. Here is a link to my latest.

I let him pick one port adventure as his birthday gift, and he chose the Turtle Farm in Grand Cayman. Shhh, but he has also been asked to sit at the Captain's Table for his birthday dinner!!! No idea how we got that honor, but I had a DCL cast member call and ask if that would be ok...uhhh, yeah!!! We also bought a silly little decoration pack that Disney Cruise Line sells...if you buy it thru them, your room steward will decorate the room with it while you are at breakfast, when they come in to clean.

OK, so we are flying SouthWest down to Orlando and AirTran back, mainly because AirTran does the on board check in. They pick your bags up, charge your bag fees to your stateroom account and whisk those suckers to the airport for you...gotta love that. Any-who, we have never flown SouthWest, but I paid the $10 for the Early Bird Special, which is where they automatically check you in at least 12 hours BEFORE the open check in, so you have a lower boarding number. I have never flown SouthWest, and I picture this roaring herd of people all trying to get good seats, crushing us in the attempt. Can anyone ease my fears? BTW, we did this split because it was cheapest, even with the Early Bird fee and the seat fees on Air Tran, our total was just under $700 for the three of us.

Great deal on those plane tickets!
With Southwest, you get to the counter and check in, and depending on the order you get to the airport, they assign you a boarding number. When it's time to get on the plan, most airports have signed sections up at the gates, so you kinda line up in your number's section. Then they'll call like number 1-20, and those people get on, etc. Smaller airports might not have the signs up, but they still board the same way. I've been flying Southwest since I was in high school and never had a problem. My boys flew back to Texas to visit family by themselves and they took very good care of them. And last summer when just the boys and I flew back, people were very nice and switched seats so we could all sit together. I've flown other airlines when we didn't have Southwest here in Charleston, and have never been as satisfied with their customer service, rates, fees, or being able to get us to our destintation on time. Hope you have a great experience too.

Sydney..with the Early Bird, they said THEY would check us in 24-36 hours before the flight, and our boarding ticket would be a lower one (and that is good, right?) than those issued at the airport. I have a friend who SWEARS by Southwest, and she says that their customer service is awesome, as well.

Ohhh, I almost forgot!! We had a while back booked the Orlando Hampton for our night before stay...I am so nervous about missing the boat that we are flying in on Friday night. So last night, the hubster asked me if we could cancel that. Uhhhh, please don't give me a heart attack, why, might I ask, are we NOT flying in the night before? Then he asked me to check and see if there were any rooms left at the airport HYATT!!!! So, I called the Hyatt, and they indeed had a Deluxe King room (one king bed and a sleeper sofa for the child) available, and why YES, we will give you a UPS (where I work) discount!! We got the Bed and Breakfast rate (includes a full hot breakfast) for the regular rate. And PLUS, the real reason we wanted the Hyatt, is that they will, on the morning of your cruise, pick up your bags and get them to the ship for you. Ohh, the luxury!!! Plus, it is mere STEPS from the airport...no waiting for ages for a hotel shuttle for us this year!

What a super extra perk! That's great peace of mind too- knowing everything will be taken care of.
With having a lower boarding number, you will be able to get on the plane sooner to pick your seats.

Shew...Sandy has come and gone and the Disney Fantasy appears fine. It also appears that our fearless leader, Buzz, is enjoying his birthday at WDW. If you want to learn some more about our love affair with Disney, I just had a post published on a site called Mousekejournals. You can check it out here:

We got out of dodge just in time. They cancelled our flight so we headed north to Manchester NH to catch. Flight south using standby.

I updated the convention calendar. It has to be a large convention group coming in. Did you try moving the dates around?

We don't have much flexibility with the dates, so I may have to book somewhere else.
