Trip Report

Hi everyone! Just returned from an 8 night stay at CSR! This was our first stay at CSR (usually stay at Poly, but have stayed at CBR and CR before as well). We were delighted with the Coronado and were so happy to call it home! We checked in on Sunday, April 28 around 1pm and there was no line for checkin. We were celebrating our anniversary and the nice lady at the desk gave us balloons, pins, and a certificate for a free champagne toast at Laguna Bar. Check in was quick and we were given or Keys to the World cards. We hung out by the Casitas pool until they texted us at about 2:30 and gave us our room #. We were in Casitas 4 (just like I requested).  We even got a lake view room, right around the corner from the pool, which we did not pay an upgraded charge for. The room was very clean and lots of towels. The beds were super comfy and the colors cheerful.

We loved the Casitas - the bright color and architecture of the buildings was just beautiful, as was the lush landscaping everywhere. We found the grounds to be much nicer than Poly as there is so much more land to walk around in with the lake there. It took us less than 3 minutes to walk from Casitas 4 to Pepper Market every morning, even with DD7 and DD9. They really enjoyed the walk and always spotted a bunny, lizard, or some new pretty flowers to check out.

We loved Pepper Market, the food was pretty good and not too pricey. It was always empty when we went there --breakfast (around 8am) and dinner (around 5pm). The first time we went there it was so empty we were worried it wasn’t even open. However, we liked it a lot, prefer it not be crowded. I never found any of the staff to be rude or anything. The waitresses were always very pleasant as were the food servers. The lady at the coffee bar was always smiling too. We enjoyed seeing her every morning.

We tried Café Rix one morning and the food was not too great. We ordered the egg sandwich on the croissant. It was ok, but I do not really like croissants and there were no other good choices. Not much for the kids there either. I found the place to be small and totally disorganized. No clear idea of where to go first, people just walking all over, no direction. DH said you could probably just get a coffee and walk right out and they would have not even noticed. Total chaos at 8 am. We steered clear of that place after that.

Panchitos was a nice big store too, carrying a great variety of stuff, easy to spend $ in there. The older gentleman who works a few evenings there was very nice and chatty (sorry I forgot names). DH went to the gym in Casitas every morning and said it was one of the nicest hotel gyms he had ever seen, very clean and just about everything you could need. We loved the pools. The pyramid pool got pretty busy in the afternoons, but we could always find a seat (unlike Poly, you could never find a lounge chair or a spot to just put down your pool bag on the beach there). I always noticed the staff picking up leftover towels and water bottles from underneath chairs, the place was always very clean. The pool staff did a great job entertaining the children with activities as well. We did find the love bugs to be a bit annoying while laying in the lounge chairs, they never bothered you when you were in the pool. I thought those didn’t start til end of May? 

We only used bus service one night to go to MK fireworks. We found it to be ok. We waited for about 15-20 minutes for a bus and the ride took like 15 mins to get there. After fireworks, the bus was there as soon as we came out of MK. We drove everywhere else and found the location of CSR to be very convenient and parking very easy.

We found the hotel to be very quiet and the ambience very relaxing. We never noticed a conference until our very last night. On Sunday, there was some women’s retail conference as I noticed many woman wearing “Chico’s” name tags. Sunday afternoon they were all over the pool decks at the pyramid pool and took up a lot of lounge chairs with just towels (which I think is very disrespectful to other guests who actually want to lay on the chairs). On Sunday evening, they were all dolled up and walking to the convention center in groups. This is fine with me, except that this was the one night we decided to take our time strolling around resort, taking pictures and enjoying it, and they were all over the sidewalks. We found several of them not very polite to families walking around as they expected us to move over to let them walk past but wouldn’t do the same for us. We found them loud and distracting. So that was kind of upsetting. If they had been there for the whole week, I think I would have asked to move to another resort.

Overall, we loved CSR very much. We found it to be just as nice as Poly if not nicer, minus the monorail convenience. Most staff we encountered were very helpful and friendly. We will definitely stay at CSR on our next visit and hope that we don’t get stuck on a week with a big conference there. We had such a pleasant stay there and really felt at home. Hope this helps everyone.

Glad ya'll had such a great visit! Casitas is the one section we haven't stayed in- maybe we'll be lucky this time too! How were the parks and other activities during your stay?

The parks were great. We went early in the am and opening and stayed til maybe 4 every day. We never waited more than 10 minutes for anything, haunted mansion, Ariel ride, Dumbo, Buzz Lightyear, Monsters Laugh Floor, etc. We used fast passes for several rides (Peter Pan, Splash Mountain, etc). Weewnt back one night to MK for fireworks but the electrical parade was canceled that night due to rain. But preshow on castle and fireworks were amazing.

We also got a fast pass ticket to reserved seating for 3pm parade one day. They rope you off in the very front circle of MK on Main Street. What a great place to watch the parade, only it came from the opposite direction so we had to wait longer.

I can't thank you all enough for your great tips about CSR. My DH was so happy I chose that place and wants to start planning another trip! I have succeeded in making him a Disney Addict after all! LOL.
