PostSubject: Magic band + testing to begin on June 19 at CSR - UPDATED   Mon Jun 10, 2013 12:32 pm

In a limited roll out, Magic band + testing to begin on June 19 at CSR. 40 - 50 random guests per day will be asked to participate in the full range of MyMagic+ experiences.

I'm not sure how I feel about this yet but am curious what others think about the bands.

The bands will be the home for everything moving forward; FP's, park tickets, special event tickets (MNSSHP, MVMCP), credit card, photo pass, and room key. If I left something out, it will be on there too.  All of this will be moved to the My Disney Experience website and app.

If you book in advance, you magic band will be mailed to your home. Disney will know when you arrive at the airport once you swipe your band. Those that don't book far enough in advance will get their bands at check in and be limited to grey.

At some point, you will not even have to go to the lobby to check in. You room number will be text (or emailed) to you on your way to the resort and once you get off the ME bus, you can go straight to your room.

They will also be selling WDW add ons so you can decorate your magic band (like Crocs) or special bands you can purchase and have it converted into your magic band.

FP's have been added to dining locations, parades, shows, fireworks, everything. You'll be able to book your FP's in advance too.

The bad part is you can only get 3 fastpasses per day. You choose are you a morning, afternoon or evening person and the system will take over from there. If you pick MK for the morning, you must pick 3 FP's. Not 1 or 2 but 3. If you are late, you can not get in. If you do not use them, you can not get another. If you park hop, all rides will be done stand by. No FP's will be available at the second park.

All FP machines will be removed. Guests visiting for the day with a ticket will have to visit guest services to have their ticket converted into a band.

FASTPASS+

  • You will be able to make FASTPASS+ reservations 60 days out from arrival, plus 10 days, similar to resort reservation dining.

  • The guest will select the park and the three preferred experiences. The system will then return up to 4 groups of availability from which to pick - early, mid day, late, or all day.
  • Grouping of guests allows one My Disney Experience user to copy the details to others traveling in that party with same FASTPASS+ reservations.
  • FASTPASS+ allows one park per day.
  • Return policies will be similar to current FASTPASS - must arrive within time window.
  • You will be able to modify your selected park until you use your first FASTPASS+. Once you use the first FASTPASS+ you can then only modify your remaining FASTPASS+ reservations at that park, and cannot switch park.
  • If you do not have a My Disney Experience account setup you will not be able to use FASTPASS+. Old non-RFID tickets can be converted but will be tied to a My Disney Experience account. This will make reselling of partially used tickets very difficult.

MagicBands

  • Colors available will include: Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Pink, Orange, Gray, Purple.
  • The bands will be shipped worldwide to the guest within 30 to 10 days of arrival.
  • If inside 10 days, the MagicBands will be shipped to the resort.
  • If within 5 days of arrival no color choice is available, and gray will be supplied and shipped to resort.
  • Any replacement bands will be gray.
  • The band is waterproof, but does not float, and is equipped with a 3 year battery.
  • Each MagicBand can handle multiple ticket entitlements.

Annual Passholders

  • AP holders will have the same FASTPASS+ rules as resort guests, with 60 days out reservations, for one park only per day, and three selections per day.
  • Passholders will be able to add a credit card to the MagicBand and RFID card to allow 'touch to pay' charging.
  • First replacement band will be free, additional replacements will cost $50.
  • The RFID card will still be required for discounts.

Parking with MagicBands

  • The parking plaza booths will be equipped with RFID touch points to validate parking.

In Park Kiosks

  • For those without a smartphone, there will be kiosks in the parks. All guest relations will be equipped, and each park will also have a dedicated area. Magic Kingdom already has a location setup in Town Square Theatre. Epcot will use the old World Key kiosk area. The remaining locations are to be determined.

It sounds very interesting , If you have a booking at what point will they contact you to find out what colour band you want ?

Not sure about the fast pass idea though , it takes planning to a new level really. I am used to ADR's but that is as far as it goes

I think this FastPass+ will be great during the busy seasons. My first instinct was that 3 passes a day isn't very much, but the more I think about it we have rarely used more than 3 in a day anyway. We're not the commando type family that arrives at rope drop and closes the park down. We need down time, so 3 passes for the 4-5 hours were in the park will be fine. You have to admit it will be pretty nice to show up at MK at 11am in mid December and be able to walk right on Space Mountain or Splash Mountain because you have a reservation.

I think fastpass+ will be ok for my family since we rarely park hop (besides AK day), we go when it's not busy, so there's usually only a few attractions we fastpass anyway, and we're familiar enough with the parks that we can plan ahead. But for inexperienced guests, I think it will really turn them off.

I will say that fastpass at Disney parks is still waaaaaay better than other parks. My parents had to pay extra to have it at Universal a couple years ago. We just went to Sea World in San Antonio a few weeks ago, and thankfully it was during the week and not crowded, so we just walked right on to rides with under 10 minute waits. If we wanted "fastpass" there is $15 extra for three or $25 for unlimited per ticket. (funny thing is there are only 4 real rides anyway)

Hi Buzz! Is there any way to request being one of the "test" guests for the Magic Bands at CSR? We are staying at CSR the second week of August. How soon will they be rolling them out?

We always stay onsite at Universal so we get the express pass perk. I wouldn't go to Universal with out staying onsite. I also really enjoy being able to walk to the parks and Citywalk, having everything right at my finger tips.

I agree, that if they completely eliminate the existing Fastpass system it will make things really tough on first time visitors, especially at busy times. Could you imagine taking your first trip to WDW Christmas week, all the Fastpasses are pre-reserved and there is 2 hour waits for everything? You would problably never go back! Fastpass+ could be good business for Disney experienced travel agents and touring guide sites though. It would be a must for first time visitors to draw on experienced help to plan their trip.

CSR is running the test again from 7/16 to 7/22 but it is only for CM's staying at CSR.

How MyMagic+ handles attraction closures with FASTPASS+

FASTPASS+ brings a new level of management and automation to the ride reservation system, and one of the big changes over regular FASTPASS is how the system handles attraction closures. Disney is continually making adjustments to MyMagic+, but as of now, here is a rundown of how FASTPASS+ handles attraction closures.

With the current FASTPASS system, a closed attraction simply results in the guest arriving at the attraction, finding it is closed, and either returning later that day to check for a reopening, or choosing not to use the FASTPASS at all. This system can impact wait times, as an attraction reopening after an earlier closure causes a large influx of guests arriving all at the same time to use their FASTPASS out of their designated time slot.

With FASTPASS+, a closure of an attraction results in an automated process where an alternative FASTPASS+ experience entitlement is automatically sent to the guest via My Disney Experience, and the original FASTPASS+ is expired.

Depending on the time of day that the closure occurs, guests receive one of the following options.

First, if the closure happens early in the day, the guest will be offered a chance to return to the attraction when it reopens or select from a list of up to eight alternative FASTPASS+ experiences at the same park on the same day.

The final option, if the original selection closes late in the day, is for the guest to select any FASTPASS+ experience at any park on the next day.

Guests are notified of a FASTPASS+ closure for their reserved window via My Disney Experience, with a notification email and a message in the My Disney Experience apps and web site.

So do they expect all guests to have a smart phone and actually have to use it while on vacation? Personally, I don't use a smartphone, and I like to be disconnected anyway when I'm on vacation. Maybe I'm in the minority, but...

Good question but I would assume the answer is yes.

Most Canadians like me turn their phones off when they cross the border as data is quite expensive as are the roaming charges. Most of the all inclusive data plans here are only for Canada, so this will be a bit of an inconvience for Canadians. I will be able to check with my Ipad back at the room, but not at the park.

Magic Bands/FP+ linked to a different resort - anybody doing a split stay with CSR as one of the resorts, you'll most-likely be able to use your MB at CSR.
