RFID Mugs

Disney World is in the process of launching the new Rapid Fill refillable mug program live across all on-property resorts. The devices are already installed at all resorts and will be live by the end of the August.

Rapid Fill allows guests to purchase a specific number of days of refills. RFID chips are embedded in the mugs and will only allow usage for the actual purchased number of days. At the end of the period you purchased, the mug will automatically deactivate.

The Rapid Fill mugs can be used at any resort hotel quick service fountain, regardless of where it was originally purchased. Although, we are not sure how practical a benefit that will be to most guests.

Unlike the existing refillable mug program where pricing is fixed for a length of stay, the new Rapid Fill will use a tiered pricing structure. Pricing are as follows:

$8.99 for 1 day
$11.99 for 2 days
$14.99 for 3 days
$17.99 for length of stay
(Side note: days are counted as a calendar day, and not a 24 hour period!)

As with the current refillable mug program, it will be included in some Disney Dining Plan benefits. Past mugs will not be able to be reused, and a new mug will need to be purchased for each resort stay.

Mugs are all the same design, featuring the Fab 5 in a pool scene. Lids are in a range of colors, including black, green, orange, pink, purple, teal and yellow.

Good to know we can use them at other resorts- sometimes like to do cs other places and wouldn't have to pay for drinks.
Do you know the details of the "length of stay" part? For example, we will get them as part of the ddp. We check in on a Sun. around 3pm, and check out the following Sun. by 11am. When does it "start" and "stop"? Can we use it immediately after checking in? Can we still use it the morning we check out? What about if we eat a cs meal at Pepper Market around lunch time before we head home?

Since days are now counted as calendar days and not a 24 hr period, I can only assume that means you'll be covered from the day you arrive till the day you leave..

Looks like CSR will be switching over to the RFID mugs on Sunday, 9/15.

FAQ

What is the difference between the Resort Refillable mugs available today and the Rapid Fill mugs?
The Rapid Fill mugs offer Guests flexibility by allowing them to choose one, two, or three days of refills or for their entire length of stay. The RFID (radio frequency identification) chip installed in the mug alerts Guests as to how many days they have remaining on their mug. The program was tested in 2011 at Disney’s All Star Resorts and is similar to the technology currently used in mugs sold at Disney water parks. The updated artwork with the new logo will roll out in September.

Will Disney Dining Plan Guests receive this mug as part of their package?
Yes, as with the Resort Refillable mug, eligible Disney Dining Plan Guests will receive the Rapid Fill mug as part of their package.

Can non-Walt Disney World Resort Guests purchase and use the mug?
Yes. Anyone can purchase and use the Rapid Fill mugs at any resort self-service beverage station.

Can the Rapid Fill mugs be used in multiple resort hotels?
Yes. The Rapid Fill mugs may be enjoyed at any resort hotel self-service beverage station.

Can I bring the same Rapid Fill mug each time I visit the Walt Disney World Resort?
No, past mugs cannot be activated for future visits.

The Guest originally purchased the mug for one day, but then decided he/she would like it for three days. Can days be added to the mug?
Yes. Guests can add days to their existing mug at the cashier. See POS details on the Process Information Sheet for information on how to complete this transaction.

What if the Guest changes his mind and wishes later to upgrade to the Length of Stay option?
If the Guest wishes to change to the Length of Stay option on their mug (after activated), have manager void original sale, then ring in Length of Stay option.

How long is length of stay?
Guests who purchase the Length of Stay option for Rapid Fill program can use the mug for fourteen (14) consecutive days after activation.

Can Guests extend the mug beyond the 14-day Length of Stay option?
Yes, as long as it’s still within the current length of stay.

If Guest purchases three days, are they consecutive days or can they skip a day (e.g., Monday, Wednesday, Friday)?
Guests may refill mugs for the number of consecutive days that they purchase. The mug becomes activated at first use. For example, Guest purchases a three-day option and activates the mug on a Monday, then they can use the mug on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

What is considered a “day”?
A day is 12:01 a.m. – 11:59 p.m. (one calendar day). Whenever the mug is used for the first time, regardless of time of day, the mug will expire for that day at midnight.

If the mug is activated for first use at 5 p.m., will the one day count until 5 p.m. the next day?
No, the day will end at 11:59 p.m. that night. Each ―day‖ is a calendar day, not a 24-hour period.
Date: July 7, 2013

FAQs, continued
Transition to Rapid Fill Mug Program

Can the current water park mug be used in resorts?
No. The current water park mug is only valid in water parks, with no resort add-on option. However, Guests soon will be able to add a water park option for their mug. Communication will be shared when this option is available.

Can Guests purchase a Resort Rapid Fill mug anywhere at Walt Disney World Resort?
Resort Rapid Fill mugs may only be purchased at Walt Disney World Resort hotels with self-service beverage stations. Future plans will include a water park option. Communication will be shared when this option is available.

If a Guest prefers not to purchase the Rapid Fill mug, can they purchase a regular mug instead?
The Rapid Fill mugs will be the only refillable mugs available at this time. Guests may choose to purchase disposable cups for their drinks if they prefer, which can be refilled four times within two hours.

Are discounts available on the mug?
No. Discounts are not available on the Rapid Fill mug. Can mugs be microwaved? No, the mug cannot be microwaved. What is the price of the Rapid Fill mug? The prices of the mugs vary based on Guest preference for number of days for refills, as follows:

There is also a 2-3 minute delay before the same mug can be refilled. When placing your mug on the dispenser base, a timer on the beverage dispenser shows the remaining time before refill can occur.
