PostSubject: Getting Dining Plan Free   Mon Feb 15, 2010 9:59 pm

We are booked for the end of August 2010 and heard rumors that Disney has in the past, offered free dining plans for that time of year but hasn't done so yet-does anyone know if this is usually the case? What would it include and would they automatically contact us? We booked through AAA
Thanks

no Disney won't just contact you to let you know

this is by no means a done deal. it's a promotion in the past to get people to come during a low attendance season

keep watching the ads/websites to see if the offer comes around this year.

When I booked our trip for October I inquired about the FreeDDP. The person didn't come right out and say it but kept hinting that "that deal is usually offered in April, so you can always book now and have your reservation adjusted later.

Well its April anyone heard any rumblings.

ROFL Do you think I am a little impatient???

PostSubject: Free Dining   Sun Apr 04, 2010 11:16 am

DocMidnite-I am with you on this-I go all over the internet daily searching for any sign of free dining for end of August! I even saw on another site that there was a rumor that they "might" be announcing free dining starting today-what do you know, I was on this computer at 12:08 last night!! Guess we will continue to keep our ears open and if anyone hears anything, hopefully we will find out right away!! It would save us all so much $$ even if it's only the quick service plan..
Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to you too Malacajo.

The FDDP will save me a good chunk. Supposedly if you are a Disney Visa holder(which I am) you get contacted first via the Visa company about the offer. I'll let everyone here know if I am contacted.
If you don't have a Disney Visa I would definitely suggest it. I have been using it to accumulate points. I actually paid for my daughters braces with it and then paid it off when the bill came. Got 40 disney bucks just on that alone. Its nice because you have free money when you get there!

Thanks for the info on the Visa, I had no idea. I will definitely talk to the hubby about it. As a side note, my daughter just got her braces, what another good idea. So far I have only booked 2 dining reservations-Rainforest in AK and Tepan Edo in Japan. Am waiting to still see about possible free dining before I do anymore, plus we are still trying to decide which restaurants-this will be the first Disney trip for us! I wish we could go in October, that would probably be my first choice-August will be scorching..October will be great there and still able to do water parks and be comfortable..
Thanks again for the info!!

Just as an FYI, the Rainforest Cafe is not on the DDP, unless you get the platinum, I believe.

I didn't know Rainforest wasn't on the plan! Guess if we get the free dining, that one will be on us! Thanks for the tip!

Here is a PARTIAL list of places that are not on the DDP:

T-Rex
Both Rainforest Cafes
Wolfgang Puck's (Dining Room-upstairs)
Bistro de Paris
Fultons Crab House

Here is a link to the 2010 "regular" dining brochure.

When you say Wolfgang's upstair's restaurant, is that the pretty expensive one?? I think there are 3 of his restaurants there..Have you ever eaten at Rainforest? I booked it because I thought the kids would really like it-I was also going to book T-Rex for the same reason, but now don't know...
Thanks again!!

Yes, it is the "expensive" Wolfgang's that isn't on the DDP. We have never eaten at Rainforest or T-Rex, we are Dining Plan folks, and stick with that for the most part. We might try T-Rex in September. We have booked the Deluxe Dining Plan, and have two TS that count as two credits (Cindy's for breakfast and California Grill) so we have to pay out of pocket for at least one meal. If you try either one, I would appreciate a review!

Have you ever considered Planet Hollywood in DDT. If you are staying in Disney they usually give you a $15.00 dollars off coupon in the Magic You Way packet!!!!

Cool restaurant, food is pretty good (what you'd expect for PH). I highly recommend the Mojito's for the adults..very refreshing cheers They are also part of the DDP I believe.

I had forgotten about PH, we had friends that went down to Disney a few months ago and tried 2 different times to get in there but couldn't..I guess I need to make a reservation, especially if we get a little discount...Thanks!

I have found if you get into PH before 5 weekdays you usually don't need reservations.

Does anyone know if Planet Hollywood would let me use the voucher for items not on the DDP, if we use the DDP for our meals? For example, if I ordered one the aforementioned Mojitos along with my DDP dinner, could we use the voucher?

I believe it's one or the other. Check the voucher when you get it it may say it on the back.

Yes, I agree. We've been there 4 or 5 times and always had a good meal. We also never had ADR's. We usually go for lunch. My favorite in the PH, Rainforest category is the ESPN Zone.

I don't know anything about ESPN Zone-I'll have to check it out..Sounds like my husband and son would love it if it pertains to ESPN...Is it on the dining plan??

Here is our experience with PH. Tried there for dinner one night last vacation or so and it was so busy, you couldn't even hear yourselves and the food is your typical burgers etc. What we did this time with the $15 credit they give you in the packet is a little different. My kids absolutely love their milkshakes. So after 12 we went there on our rainy day (it was packed) and went to bar. Asked the bartender if they would honor the coupon for the shakes only. Well what do you know, we got lucky. I think our total was about $13 so we lost $2, but the kids were happy and really wanted to eat at House of Blues instead. We tipped the bartender and we were off down the street. Had wings and drinks and that lasted us until BOMA at 8 pm. DS14 got a little Planet Hollywood keychain as his gift. Also, he bought a PH tee for a souvenir. It was a nice change not to be stuck for a whole meal. Definitely, a visual, but loud experience.
