PostSubject: Restaurant suggestions   Tue Feb 23, 2010 9:35 pm

As I have said before, our first trip to CSR and Disney will be in August. At this point the only reservation that I know that we will make is for Tepan Edo in Epcot for our 13 yr old that is obsessed with anything Japanese-first off, is this a good restaurant? Secondly, any other great suggestions would be appreciated! Also, do you need reservations for Maya Grill at the resort??
Once again, I love this website!!
Thanks,
Laurel

other great food places

Boma @ The Animal Kingdom Lodge
Le Cellier @ Epcot
Whispering Canyon Cafe @ The Wilderness Lodge
Tusker House @ Animal Kingdom
The Brown Derby @ Disney's Hollywood Studios
The Plaza @ The Magic Kingdom

for counter service (ie not the fancy expensive sit downs)
Flame Tree BBQ @ Animal Kingdom
Cosmic Ray's @ The Magic Kingdom
Cantina De San Angel @ EPCOT
Pizza Planet @ Disney's Hollywood Studio

whatever you do don't get the room service pizza as it's the same for every resort and it's nasty.

I would recommend reservations at any table service restaurant you want to try on property. There are far too many great restaurants to randomly suggest. What types of dining experience do you like?

Here are a few that I truly love and I am the most finicky eater on the planet:

1. Boma: great buffet and something for everyone. A little pricey, but a good experience.
2. Ohana's: This is flat out my favorite restaurant at WDW. Start off with a Lapu Lapu in the lounge.
3. Tusker House breakfast: I think this is the best character breakfast at the parks
4. Akershus: Great breakfast and the Princesses are here as well. Better than CRT
5. Flame Tree BBQ @ AK: Excellent counter service meal. If you walk by it, you will stop and eat there
6. Cosmic Ray's: Classic counter service and the show is enjoyable

:lmao2: BigRedDad your comment about Lapu Lapus we're thinking along the same lines! My little sis and I discovered them about 2 years ago and now we bring everyone into our little addiction. Even picked up the pineapple corer thing to make the "glasses" for her last Christmas.

let me stay on track - Resturants

Two thumbs up for Akershus pronounced 'asher-rons' When we were there two years ago some in our party just got the cold buffet which was very well priced. Not certain if they will still let you do that, but I'd spring for that again.

Another cheap date is Earl of Sandwich in downtown disney, if you have a day that you're not paying to be at the park (arrival day or departure day perhaps) head over there for wonderful list of healthy options. Consider it a well kept secret, oh and they are open B,L and D counter service (not part of the meal plan) so no need for reservations.

Just had to ask about the Lapu Lapu?? OMG did I even spell it correctly?? I am now at the point where I can start officially making dining reservations-is it a pretty solid thing that anywhere that is not counter service will need a reservation? Also do the DTD restaurants work the same-needing reservations there too?
Thanks!

I tried to get into the new Dinosaur restaurant at DtD but it was booked solid. Gloria Estefan's restaurant is very good too. For sandwiches, the Earl of Sandwich is good as well.

Lapu Lapu is a "grown up drink" in a pineapple. I could tell you what's really in it, but something is lost in the translation of contents, just think pineapple heaven is inside. So here it is in all it's glory, yes there are three in the photo and I'm not telling how many were on the table that night!

As for reservations you can book anytime once you are 90 days from arrival (up to 97 days with your disney property reservation I think it is). Dining reservations can be made two ways the first way is to call 1 (407) WDW-DINE, yes I have it memorized. Or you can sit at the comfort of your computer and do everything online by going to this web address. Disney Dining

I book for three meals a day. B,L, and D if we stop and have a snack or breakfast was to big (which is often the case on Disney property) I don't lament the missed reservations as I really made them to guarantee we'd be able to eat close to our regular time without dealing with the possible 2+ hour wait times. Just be aware of the ones that need a credit card to hold them (Akershus) or prepayment (Cinderella's Royal Table) as those will be charged to your credit card if you don't show.

Oh my gosh the pineapple looks so good-right up my alley actually. Thanks for the info, we aren't going until Aug and this is our first trip. That's why I am trying to get all the advice I can. We are staying for a week and want to make every minute count-I mean this literally! We don't want to miss anything, but of course a week probably isn't long enough..
Thanks again!

If you get a good bartender, one Lapu Lapu can get you in a very good mood. I had a bartender there that I knew from the previous trip. I think he doubled the alcohol and I have a very fun evening. They are not cheap. I think they are like $18. But, they are worth every penny.

Hi. First let me say you will have a wonderful time at CSR. There is something for everyone here and it's fun and truly beautiful.

Restaurantwise, my DD17 must have Teppan Edo, Boma is a must for us, as is Raglan Road in DTD, DD17 wants to try Marrakesh (sounds cool), we also love Yak & Yeti quick serve at AK, Kona Cafe for breakfast (love that real coffee), Hollywood Brown Derby (excellent food, service) having lunch with the Imagineer for DS14 (can't wait), Le Cellier, love the beignets at French Quarter and House of Blues is always consistent. Love the Cafe Rix at CSR for a breakfast sandwich with OJ & coffee while sitting outside by the lake. I was stuffed until dinner and happy to walk it off. Mango gelato is good there too.

On another note, don't forget the gift shop at CSR. People are so friendly and helpful there.

Enjoy your vacation

your 13 year old will love teppan edo that is a must do for us
and Whispering Canyon Cafe its really fun, loud but fun.
The other 2 my kids ask to go back to are the Sci-fi and Ohana
the nachos at the pool bar were very yummy (well what I got to taste my 8 year old gobbled them down)

as for T-Rex
call the resturant directly and you can normally get in even on the day of,
we were told by the hostess they only keep a few tables for disney reservation and the control the rest
and if you get a rainforst safari membership (its a one time thing) you can use it at T-rex because its part of the Landry chain too.
it gets you 10% off any purchases and a free appitizer every time for the table

I wasn't sure about the price mentioned on the Lapu Lapu's as it seemed high so I checked when I was there this past weekend and they were under $13.

You were just there? How did the newly renovated rooms at CSR look? Is Ohana only for breakfast?

I'd never seen the CSR before the renovations, so keep that in mind. The rooms are nice, but the tile in the bathroom looks original and therefore unchanged.

The new beds made it a really tight squeeze on the bed closest to the bathroom wall. I think they must have done that to make sure there was enough room for a wheelchair to navigate the other side as well as the second bed by the door. It made getting the bedrail in on that side a real challenge.

The bed was firmer than the Double Tree Deep Sleep beds if you've tried those before. I also think the bed was not at soft (same firmness just less pillowed on top) as it was at the Boardwalk when we stayed there July '09. You should take my comments about the beds with a grain of salt as the sheets on my bed felt very starched and had pressed in wrinkles that did not come out even after the second night of sleeping on them, which most likely added to my sleep discomfort.

Everyone in our group enjoyed the double doors to the sink area, as it allows a nice amount of extra space to get dressed in as the actual bathroom area is quite small.

'Ohana is a character meal at breakfast with Lilo and Stitch standard breakfast fare - which I have never been to and then they are open for dinner, I'm not certain what time they open.

I guess I can stick my two cents in on this one.

As far as sit down meals..

San Angel Inn. My number one pick. Of course thats because I love Mexican/South American type fare.
Crystal Palace. Great breakfast buffet. If you have kids its a character restaurant with Pooh and Friends. Never had lunch here, heard its good though.
Tusker House. Another great breakfast character dining spot. The juice they serve you there is heaven.

The Sci Fi Cafe is a fun time themed restaurant in Disney Studios. Good food/ nothing spectacular but good salads/burgers and sandwiches.
50's Prime Time. Good basic American Fare

I have heard the Steahouse in Canada(EPCOT) is FANTASTIC. Never been able to get in there.

Counter Service

Cosmic Rays (MK)
Pinnochios Village by Its A Small World (MK)
Pizza Planet: Good salads for Mom and Dad and nice personal pizza for kids
Yak and Yeti cafe. Nice to go oriental take out
