PostSubject: LuckySTAR* 4/14 - 4/18 trip report   Wed Apr 21, 2010 7:24 pm

So, this CSR visit turned into a POP visit with a 4 day Florida Dream Pass with Water Parks & more.
DAY 1: Due to a late arrival at POP, we changed our plans. After dropping our stuff off in our 80s area room, we were off to Downtown Disney and Disney Quest. I have to say that the River Raft ride and Pirates (at DQ) are two of my favorite things to do in all of Disney. I LOL the entire time I am on the raft ride.
DAY 2: Breakfast at BOMA, thanks to the recommendations on this site. We really enjoyed this, then walked this stunning resort.

Then off to Disney Hollywood Studios. We got there just in time for the Lights Motor Action Extreme Stunt Show. DS loved this.

We then waited AN HOUR to ride Toy Story, and it actually is worth the wait. What fun!

We then followed the Block Party Bash parade over to Star Tours, then swung by Prime Time for Peanut Butter & Jelly milkshake. We walked onto the Rock'n Rollercoaster by doing the single rider line. We were in the same limo, just not next to each other. Then I watched Beauty & the Beast (again) and finished the night with the American Idol finals. The singers were great, and the winner was phenomenal. I enjoyed it, but I'm an Idol fan.

Day 3: DS DGF arrives and we were off to Typhoon Lagoon 'til 2 or so before heading to EPCOT around 4. Went off to visit Figment, the off to world showcase for some Fish & Chips in England with some British Invasion music in England. Saw the Nelson twins doing odes to their father and grandfather. Illuminations always rocks my world. The F&GS was awe inspiring. We did all the rides during extra magic hours... Spaceship Earth, Test Track, Mission to Mars and finally got on Soarin' close to midnight.

Day 4: After sleeping in, we started the day with lunch at the Whispering Canyon Cafe. Always yummy and a blast! They ended our meal with a surprise cupcake to celebrate DS' upcoming graducation.

We then boated from Wilderness Lodge to MK. We got there in time for the 3pm parade. Then we went to grab our Space Mountain fast passes for 9ish that night. We did the people mover, the Carousel of Progess (so cute always), then walked onto Stitch. Yikes! I didn't realize this was the old Alien that totally freaked me out years ago. This time it was more manageable for me, but I could hear the shrieks of the kids during the extremely long very dark parts. I'm not sure this is a good idea, but I digress. Then the kids ran off to wait for Thunder Mountain for a million years. I watched the Dream Along with Mickey show, grabbed a Dole float, then rocked out with Move It Shake It Celebrate It Street Party. I was amazed how the characters and people were dancing together virtually unattended, though there were CMs dispersed everywhere.

I then did PhilHarmagic and the River Cruise while the kids did the Haunted Mansion. Loved PhilHarmagic! Never saw that before. We ran onto Pirates before going to Space Mountain. YIKES! Again had not been on in a dozen years... Seems darker and bumpier and closed into little spaces. You have no idea where you're going next. What a rush! Then the speedway, Wishes fireworks, Small World, and took the kids to see PhilharMagic because I loved it SO much earlier. Then caught SpectroMagic up close and personal before shopping on our way back to POP.

Day 5: Packed up. Went back to Disney Quest instead of Animal Kingdom because of the rainy day. We walked the marketplace and had crappy service at Ghiardelli (sp?) (though my cocoa was out of this world) before taking the water taxi up to DQ. We will go back on one or two weekends to use the one park pass day probably at AK and one more water parks day. If I can afford it, we'll stay overnight (at CSR). I'll leave you a couple of POP shots I took. First the view outside my room (kind of fun seeing the ghost hotel everytime I walked out the door) and the pool near me around sunrise. (Click on any of the photos to enlarge.)

Thanks for sharing LuckySTAR!! Is Boma strictly a buffet? How did you like it? Rumor has it that someday the PM may become like Boma.

On the day we went, BOMA for breakfast was $18.99 per person and the dinner sign posted when we left was $30.99 per person. I have never purchased a ticket package where I was eligible for DDP, free or otherwise, so I am sensitive to costs. That's why I bring things for the room, and we do a lot of sharing and certainly don't need as much food as the DDP provides each day. The atmosphere at BOMA is beautiful and authentic. The service was very good. The price includes coffee and awesome juices (jumba juice mix was a DS fave). As far as I can tell, this was a buffet only restaurant, as they have numerous other choices at that resort for various meals at different levels, and I don't think anyone offered us menus. It is a huge buffet with standard American dishes mixed with African dishes, many of which were heavy on the curry, so I didn't try all of them. Some buffet areas I remeber:

  • a made-to-order omlet & egg station
  • a carving station (I think there were 2 choices of meat, but not sure)
  • a bakeries area with every kind of bread from banana to rye, croissants, scones, muffins, bagels, etc., with all the complementary toppings & spreads
  • a cold cereal station (8 choices, I think)
  • a hot cereal station (homeade looking oatmeal concoction)
  • a fresh fruit & yogurt station (yum, yum, yum)
  • a breakfast side station with AMAZING (home fried) potatoes, thin crispy bacon and plump sausages
  • an egg and egg casserole station that had goat cheese & spinach eggs, scrambled aggs, and there was some curry turkey egg casserole I tried here
  • a pancake, belgian waffle & cinnamon raisin french toast (only the french toast stood out to me, I didn't even try anything else here) station
  • and my favorite station - the farthest on the right - had scrambled eggs, a spicy hot tomato mixture to put on top of the eggs, with some African type of grits type thing AND fresh grilled tomato halves - I'd like to have this for breakfast daily

I'm sure I forgot some items. Way too many available. Come hungry!

I am not sure if this is a good concept for PM or not. And a big part of what made it special was going to the Animal Kingdom Lodge. SO beautiful! POP transportation was great - all rides were pretty short from there. I just hopped on the AK bus and then got to the AKL 5 mins later by hopping on their bus. From there, we took the AKL bus to Hollywood Studios. Easy peazy.

And, yes, I would do it again.

Kathy, do you think a Boma style restaurant would be a positive for CSR?

Hey LuckyStar!! Welcome Home!! Great report! Probably passed you at DTD on that rainy icky day. Shopped a bit and ran into House of Blues and it just poured. Left for dinner at BOMA still raining. Breakfast sounds good; love that property. Looked at your great pictures. POP is the only resort we have yet to visit and check out. Do you know how it compares to the ASMusic? Looks like Disney fun. Did you have the tie-dye cheeskecake?? How was the pool?? Would you stay there again??

Looked at your son and his girl so cute!! Noticed he has the same graduation hat my daughter bought on Main Street. Did his board have the Mickey ears or are they just down?? Liked that celebration at WCC. Love WL, but only on a pin code!! Beautiful & sedate.

We love Mickey's PhilHarmagic show-always a must do for us when there. DD & DS play clarinet and sax respectively, so we cannot miss the show!! Never disappoints!! Some day we will see the SpectroMagic Parade, but it was not to be this time!!

Time flew by. We hope to get our computer up and running soon. Still working at it. Had to wipe out and start again. Trying to load printer, keyboard and mouse. What a nightmare. College deadlines are looming for us so we are behind in our trip report so stay tuned.

Glad you and your family had fun

Ditto to what doc and all wrote earlier. Sounds like a perfect vacation---you packed a lot in which is wonderful---loved that you walked onto some rides. Going in spring sure has its perks, huh!?

Okay, I haven't been here in a while, so I'll be back later to respond. On my way to Typhoon Lagoon right now to spend another day on our 4 day Dream Pass. Today's weather is going to be 90 and sunny, so I couldn't resist a quick trip back to WDW!

I am jealous. Sounds like a perfect day to swim w/ the sharks---TL is so great---I love the giant wave pool---when people are screaming when that wave comes, it's really for their lives!! What a wedgie wave!

We dreampt about it, and just did it after our 5th WDW trip. We knew this is where we wanted to live, work and play. The pace of life is so different from where we were in D.C. In retrospect, it was probably crazy to just up and quit our jobs. Sell everything and move to Kissimmee with nothing. Would I do it again? Heck yeah.

This was our 2nd POP stay. We stayed there last July. Though I spent less time at the resort this time and didn't eat any meals there, the room was much cleaner than last time. POP is a huge resort with great bus service, except that you walk long distances to most things. There are THREE very cool pools, and lots of fun distractions around the resort. The Hippie Dippie pool is lots of fun with all the sprinklers. But I love swimming laps in the bowling pool. I've never had the cheesecake there, but it does look colorful! It's newer than the other All Stars as well. We stayed at ASMovies in October when we celebrated my birthday. Everything felt smaller and closer. Halfway through our trip, I realized you could probably walk to all of the All Star pools, but never did it. I didn't like that the buses stopped at each AS resort. By the time we got on at Movies, the buses were way crammed. Last on, last off is not the best position to be in. I think any of the ASRs are good if your budget can't fit in CSR, or all you're going to be doing at your resort is sleeping and showering. Next time I stay at POP, I will request a newly refurbished room in the 70s area. They have brand new beds.
Oh, and the ears are there on the graduation cap. Just click on the picture. We were trying it on in the first store on the left as you enter MK on Main St. I'm sorry we weren't able to get together this trip. We probably did cross paths that rainy Sunday. Hopefully, next time.
p.s. Typhoon Lagoon was heavenly today, but we all got a little too much sun. We were out in it at least 5 hours today, and even with 45 and 70 spf sunscreens, we still got clobbered.

I think that would be dangerous for me.
