Has anyone here ever looked into joining DVC?

We toyed with the idea once a few years back but eventually just moved on to some other project.

But we were recently at a party and one of DH's cousins belongs. They spent the whole time praising the benefits of joining. Now, it's been on my mind again.

If we are going to continue to go at least yearly - it might work out well. (Never mind that fact that after paying for 5 consecutive trips I probably could have paid off membership already :P )

Anyway - I was wondering if anyone seriously looked into it and if so, why you decided against it?

I looked into it and sat down to figure out the money I would spend on that vs the money spent per trip and its wasn't the great deal I thought it was going to be. There are yearly expenses and a small mortgage. The points are very expensive and you need a lot because all the DVC at costly. Especially when you get codes, free dining and gift card promos to reduce costs. I also didn't want to loose CSR as an option.
