PostSubject: HELP!! Can't choose which resort to take    Tue Aug 24, 2010 4:02 am

Hi all,

just new to this amazing forum which we found while trying to make a decision which resort we should take for our 2011 Disney trip from Germany....
We are 2 adults and kids aged 14 and 10. We will stay for 11 nights from August 21st until September 1st at WDW - the time with the free dining plan ...
We are thinking about staying either at CSR or at CBR and we really don't know which resort to take...
Any pro's and con's from your side to make our decision easier are highly appreciated :-)

welcome #2 to the CSR Forum!

Here are some of the pros/cons/and in betweens of CSR...

THE PROS

* Queen beds in all rooms
* Flat panel LCD's in all rooms
* No sharing bus service with other resorts and only 4 internal stops (CBR has 7 stops)
* Centrally located with short rides to the parks
* Largest hot tub on WDW property
* Great main pool area with bar, snack bar, playground and kiddie pool
* 3 quiet pools
* High speed internet service
* WiFi available too
* Free use of the gym 24/7
* Spa, salon and tanning beds available
* a dance club on property (Rix Lounge voted most trendy bar in Orlando)
* Coffeemaker in the room
* Iron and ironing board
* full room service menu
* an arcade at the main pool
* beautifully landscaped
* central air, not a noisy wall unit

THE CONS

* only one sink
* large resort

IN THE MIDDLE

* The Pepper Market is either a love it or hate it place. We love it but some guests just don't care for the set up because a 10% gratuity is added to the bill.
* Convention resort - some guests don't like seeing other guests at work. Doesn't bother us and helps keep the buses empty. GF, Cont, BW, Y & B Club are also convention resorts.

PostSubject: Thanks!   Tue Aug 24, 2010 11:49 am

Thanks Buzz,

that helped a lot :-) We are still not sure what to book but every info helps...
Do you have any idea how crowded the WDW will be in this time of the year ?
We could wait until December 20th with the booking to get the free dining - but should we wait so long or will the rooms with free dining all be booked out until then ??

Thanks again for help! This forum is really great for information seekers :-)

I wouldn't count on free dining or the dates from this year to transfer so easily to next.

Traditionally, free dining has been available during this time of year so I can only assume its semi crowded. Its still school vacation, its summer time. I know it will be hot. Take advantage of EMH's. Pool water gets warm in Fl during the summer months. I went once in June and the water was like bath water.

With the age of your kids, I would suspect they would like CSR's pool more. The 123 ft Jaguar slide is great!! CBR has a great new pool but its geared toward younger kids in my opinion.

Good luck in your decision. Either way you'll be at WDW!!

After staying at CSR with a 13 yr old and a 10 yr old, CSR was perfect, they absolutely loved it, especially the main pool...

I won't go into all of the GREAT stuff at the CSR as Buzz has already done so. I can tell you that the CSR is our favorite resort, even over the deluxes we have stayed at. We will be back "home" at the CSR in two weeks for our 9th stay.

We have not stayed at the CBR. However, our oldest son (now 24) was there last year with a group of 13-year old boys that he coaches in baseball with t heir families. While they enjoyed their stay at the CBR and had no issues with the room, the buses or the food, they had problems with the pool. Don't get me wrong...the pool is great. But the 13-year old boys found it a little too geared toward the younger set and always was extremely crowded. The slide at the CBR is nowhere near as good as the one at the CSR (the one at the CSR is over 120 feet long).

Good luck in making a decision.

I think I can provide alittle more of the info you are looking for. We had a 10 night stay at CBR in Dec. 2008 and we havea 8 night stay booked at CSR for Dec. 2010.

Our 2008 vacation was our first major family vacation in quite sometime, it turned out to be an amazing time. We did alot of research in planning it and it all fell into place. We even lucked out with the weather, they had near record breaking Dec. temperaturs almost everyday of our trip avg daily high was 85F. We picked the CBR to stay at. We weren't willing to spend Deluxe resort prices and I wasn't willing to stay at the value resorts. After looking at tons of pictures, reading a 100's of reviews and books, we decided to book the CBR. We had a blast and I would have no problem staying there again. There are lots of positive and negative reviews on the CBR on the Internet. I find it really comes down to personal taste, priority's, and expectations. If you want your hotel room to "wow" you than the CBR isn't the place (niether is any of the other Moderate or value resorts). What you are paying for at CBR is outside of the room. The grounds and scenery is amazing. It was like being on two vacations, one to Disney and one to the Carribean! The resort is large and which room location you get or ask for can play a big part in the overall experience. We payed for a preffered room and requested building 25, both of our requests were fullfilled. Building 25 is closest to the food court area (convient for the refillable mugs), has a nice beach directly in front of it (where I layed on a Hammock almost every night at 9:30PM to watch the Epcot fireworks, this beach faces Spaceship earth which you can see over the tree line), and was on the opposite side of the centre town to the pool. We didn't and weren't going to rent a car so location to food court and Disney bus transportation were crucial. Because we were on the otherside of the Centre town area we didn't get any of the noise from the main pool area, but were still only a 2 minute walk away! The bus stop was also only 2 minute walk. If you look at building 25 on the CBR map you will understand what I mean. So this location was perfect for us. Close to the bus stop, food, pool, private beach, and what I feel is the best view at CBR, especailly if you like the fireworks.

Some of the buildings are quite far from the food court requiring a 10-15 minute walk, I would only recommend those to someone who has a car or doesn't plan on using the food court much and is content to use the smaller private pools that each section has. The Pirate rooms are a little nicer, especially if your kids like them, but they are all located at the far end of the resort. So as far as our CBR experience goes I rate it like this: Room-adequate, Resort-great and worth the extra over the value resorts, Food-adequate(food court can be crowded at late breakfast and supper time, but if you avoid those times it's pretty quick), Resort grounds and pool: Fantastic, Bus service: It was great for us, convenient stop locations and minimal waits. This could vary on time of year. Staff: Great. Like I said our trip couldn't have been better and I would have no problem staying there again. Keep in mind when reading Resort reviews that personal expectations play a big part in the satisfaction level. Most of my expectaions for CBR were met.

So why not stay there again? We did seriously consider it in the early stages of planning this trip, but in the end decided to try something different.

Again we decided we weren't willing to pay Deluxe resort prices. Port Orleans was ruled out because we felt our son wouldn't appreciate some the theme as much as we would. As you know we picked CSR. The CSR is very similar to CBR in alot of ways. Similar layout, size, and same idea with grouping building with slightly different theme and decor and a quiet pool for each section. You have Mexican style and scenery instead of Carribean, but both are very nice. From what I've read, I'm expecting the bus service at CSR to be very similar to CBR. The reason we ultimately chose the CSR over CBR is the handful of Deluxe resort type upgrades. Queen beds instead of double, flat screen tv's(last time I checked only some of the CBR rooms had flat screens), in room DVD players, similar food court options, but more table service options(plus Maya grill is higher rated than Shutters by most), an actual lounge(CBR only has a pool side bar), and a fitness center (my son and I both workout regularliy). The importance of these upgrades is upto the individual, but keep in mind it's all for the same price. There are a couple of minuses: The CBR has beach areas all over the resort, one or two beaches for every group of buildings. From what I can tell the CSR only has beach area at the Cabana's. The big minus for me is my nightly viewing of the fireworks, the view from my beach at the CSR was fantastic!! Almost like being at Epcot. CSR is much farther from the firework area, we will probably be able to see the really high ones from the right spot, but nothing like being at the CBR.

We had two big concerns for staying at the CSR that we are hoping will be nullified by the timeframe we are arriving at. First one is conventions. We are arriving on Dec. 14th. It doesn't look like there are any conventions there through Xmas. Second is room location. Much like CBR room location will be key for us to maximise our experience. If we can't get a room in Cabana 9B, 9A, or Casitas 1, I will not be happy and will probably see if we can get transfered to CBR. I'm hoping this won't be a problem because we arrive on a Tuesday before the Xmas rush, the CBR really didn't fill up until about the 23rd last time. We arrived on the 16th last time and I think our arrival date played a part in us getting our first choice of room.

I hope this helps and feel free to ask questions if you have any!

Great breakdown. Although we've never stayed at the CBR, we have visited it numerous times and you described it very well.

However, one thing about the CSR I did want to correct you on. There are NOT DVD players in the rooms at the CSR. They do have them in Cabanas 9B in the Club Level rooms, but nowhere else in the resort do they have them.

CBR is very nice! I've stayed there a couple times. The pools are awesome. The food isn't too shabby. Our room was Finding Nemo themed- too cute.
I found it to be an easy walk to the bus stops, and the bus rides to the parks were not too long.

This will be my first stay at CSR...I am guessing it will be pretty similar to CBR-just with a different twist.

Either way, it's all still Disney and loads of fun.
